THEONE Co., Ltd., a venture company with large-capacity inverter and precision measurement and control technologies for submarines and ships, announced on the 24th that it is focusing on a government-funded project awarded in May for the development of a high-performance 800V-class SiC inverter system for tuned electric vehicles.

This project is to develop a SiC MOSFET-based inverter system for controlling the drive motor, a core technology for next-generation EVs (800V class). The total development budget is KRW 2 billion, and the development period is three years.

Yun Ji-taek, Head of the Research Institute and overall project lead, said, “By securing core technologies for 800V-class SiC inverter systems at an early stage, we aim to support entry into the EV market in response to fast charging and extended driving range in future vehicles, and to expand their application into the electric propulsion market for eco-friendly ships.”

SiC inverter development technology is expected to support not only EV applications but also broader industrial expansion as a foundational technology for advancing industries spanning power-conversion semiconductor materials, components, and power electronics.

Meanwhile, THEONE recently signed a joint technology development agreement with a company specializing in electric vehicle motor development for the development of SiC inverter technology for in-wheel motor drive systems and for the production of commercial prototypes, drawing attention to its next steps.
