THEONE, which possesses development technology for large-capacity marine inverters, announced on the 29th that it is accelerating electric propulsion vessel development after recently forming a consortium for the commercialization of electric propulsion system technology for small and medium-sized vessels.

THEONE is the company that localized, using purely domestic technology, the inverter for the electric propulsion system installed in Korea’s 3,000-ton-class submarines Dosan Ahn Chang-ho and Ahn Mu.

The company explained that, based on leading technologies secured through its own proprietary technology, it is concentrating on the localization and development of large-capacity marine inverter technology in line with the government’s project to expand eco-friendly ships.

CEO Kyeonghan Jeon said, “The government’s eco-friendly ship initiative is expected to expand from the public sector to the private sector, and in the near future it is likely to be applied to small and medium-sized vessels and fishing boats as well.”

He added, “We will work to localize medium- and large-capacity inverters for eco-friendly ships as quickly as possible and expand into the global market.”

Meanwhile, the government held the 7th Korea New Deal Ministers’ Meeting and confirmed the First Basic Plan for Eco-Friendly Ships, which sets out the basic direction for technology development and the promotion of eco-friendly ships.

According to this plan, the government will pursue key initiatives not only to secure leading technologies for future eco-friendly ships, but also to accelerate public-sector transition first and then expand the transition across the private sector.
