l Securing advanced technologies for the replacement of internal combustion engines with electric propulsion
l Proactive response to the expansion of global regulations on pollutant emissions from ships
[Big Data News, Reporter Cho Dong-hwan] TheOne Co., Ltd., a company specializing in the development and manufacturing of high-capacity inverters for ships, announced on the 21st that it had recently won a government project to develop an outboard-integrated electric propulsion system based on a high-power IGBT inverter system for small and medium-sized eco-friendly ships.
This project aims to replace the internal combustion engines used as the power systems of small and medium-sized ships with a fully electric propulsion system. Its purpose is not only to proactively respond to the expansion of global regulations on pollutant emissions from ships, but also to secure advanced technologies and localization technologies through preemptive technology development.
CEO Jeon Gyeong-han stated, “In Korea, development and interest in eco-friendly ships and electric propulsion systems have been focused mainly on large merchant ships, while related research and development for small and medium-sized vessels, including fishing boats, remains relatively insufficient.” He added, “It is necessary to secure a leading position in both the domestic and global markets through rapid technology commercialization.”
Meanwhile, the Korean government has announced the “1st Basic Plan for the Development and Distribution of Eco-Friendly Ships (2021–2030),” related to systematic technology development support and the promotion of the eco-friendly ship demonstration project, Greenship-K, to secure technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships by 70%, including low-carbon and zero-carbon technologies, by 2030.
TheOne Co., Ltd. is drawing attention as it continues to expand the application of its technologies to various industrial fields, based on its successful localization of high-capacity inverters for the electric propulsion system of a 3,000-ton-class domestic submarine.
